My father was 94 years old when he passed away at Herrin Hospital. The whole experience was unexpected, but Ashley was there. My father didn't get sick until May and prior to that, he led a very active lifestyle. He mowed his own lawn, drove, took care of his home, pet, and attended all his great-grandchildren's birthday parties. He was thriving at his age but when he got sick, he never bounced back. He was admitted to Herrin on the North Unit several times and the experience was phenomenal because of Ashley.
She didn't know my dad, but she sure treated him with great courtesy and respect. She always kept me updated and in the loop which made me feel comfortable when I was uncertain of the outcome. The staff overall was great but when Ashley wasn't there, my heart sank a little. My dad really liked her, and she did so well with him. He was moved from ICU to North and he passed away shortly after he arrived at the unit. Ashley was there that day and it gave me a little more strength knowing she was.
It may not seem like a lot when I put it into words, but the way she made me feel, I will never forget. I just want to say thank you.
