My aunt did not seem fully conscious, but Ashley leaned over to the side of her head and hugged her, and whispered in her ear.
I am the niece of a patient in your hospital. I stayed with her almost every night and sometimes during the day and was able to observe her daily care. She wanted me to make sure staff were recognized for the care she was given. One individual stood out among all. Ashley was the first nurse to attend to her the night she was admitted to the hospital. She immediately showed compassion and concern. She helped my aunt feel comfortable during a fearful time. She was only her nurse for a few nights but her work ethic and desire to be attentive showed right away. Not to say others did not, but Ashley was special. After 24 days of illness, my aunt, unfortunately, passed away there at the hospital. Even though Ashley had not been her nurse since her first few days stay at the hospital, when she heard my aunt was passing, she made a concerted effort to come by. My aunt did not seem fully conscious, but Ashley leaned over to the side of her head and hugged her, and whispered in her ear. I don’t know what she said to her but I’m sure it was words of comfort. She asked if there was anything she could do for me. I think this speaks volumes for the type of nurse and person she is to remember a patient she had only served for a few days, then weeks later some back to comfort her on her last night here on earth.
