Brooke Wilson is a DAISY Nurse for her incredible care of a 4-month-old baby. Incredibly this was one of the first pediatric patients that Brooke cared for! At the beginning of the shift, the baby did not look good, but he has just been admitted and we were really only getting started on his therapies. As the night progressed, Brooke expressed that she just was not comfortable with the way he continued to look - it did not seem like he was improving at all. She communicated frequently with the pediatrician to explain her concerns, but the pediatrician remained relatively unconcerned. More time passed and the baby was still not improving, in fact, he was starting to look worse. Brooke called the pediatrician again and ultimately got some more tests ordered. These exams revealed that the baby had a diagnosis different than the pediatrician expected. The pediatrician then came to the bedside, and we initiated transferring the baby to Denver for a higher level of care. Brooke did such an amazing job advocating for the baby and his deteriorating condition. She knew something was not quite right and continued to communicate calmly and clearly with the physician. Additionally, she was a strong support for the baby's dad. Her attentive care and strong advocacy for this baby sincerely made a difference in his overall care and got him the treatment he really needed. Additionally, in follow-up, Brooke received a thank you card from the pediatrician for her remarkable care of the patient!
