Not only did she comfort and bring peace to me, but she did the same thing for my mom and girlfriend. I believe that she was paired with us just for that reason.
I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. It all took me by surprise. One second, I was driving into the darkness of a night covered highway with no visible vehicles ahead. The next second, I had a face full of airbag and I was spinning aimlessly on the pavement in my small truck. I’d also always been pretty “fearless” and couldn’t remember a time when I was truly scared for my life. Of course, this night changed all of that. Shaking uncontrollably, I stepped out of my truck onto the centerline of a dark highway. Fear struck me like I’d never felt before. I didn’t know where to turn next, and I had never yearned to be around people I cared about as I did at that moment. Although I was talking to and thanking God for my safety, I just needed somebody there with me in that moment. Upon arriving at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, I was wheeled into the ER and prep for examination began. I couldn’t stop talking and I talked to and asked everybody questions. Basic things, too, like “What’s your name?” and “How long have you been doing this?” I couldn’t move, and I would assume I was coming down off of adrenaline, so all I could do was talk. After my scans, in came Catherine. I could tell right off the bat that Catherine had it together. She seemed like a veteran of the ER, and she knew what I needed. She was friendly, she was comforting, and she brought a feeling of peace into the room with her. I grilled her with questions just like everybody else I had come into contact with that night. She answered them all with a happy and willing attitude. She visited with my mom and my girlfriend and assured them that I was going to be okay. We all agreed that she was one of the friendliest and most personable nurses that we had ever come into contact with. We believe that God sends people like that in times of tribulation to comfort us as angels would. To me, Catherine was that angel. Not only did she comfort and bring peace to me, but she did the same thing for my mom and girlfriend. I believe that she was paired with us just for that reason. I was compelled to nominate Catherine for the DAISY Award. If I could write out what I needed in a nurse and handpick one in a moment like that, I would definitely pick her. Words can’t describe the kindness and comfort that she presents in moments of distress. Although I’d never met Catherine, she didn’t just enter the room as a nurse. She entered as a friend. I can’t say enough good things about the whole St. Bernards team. They ALL took such good care of me and my loved ones in that moment. I could tell that they weren’t just nurses or doctors. They were good people at the core. God forbid that I ever end up in another accident, but if I do, send me to St. Bernards. Please express my gratitude to Catherine and everyone who took such good care of me that night. I will forever be thankful for their kindness.
