M stated that without Dan performing range of motion on each of her wrists, she would not have been able to regain the independence of driving again.
We happened to be having a very rare lunch break with Dan Brown, an RN from the BICU, when a lady walked up to us and asked Dan if he remembered her. Her name was M and she was a patient in the BICU 7 years ago and she recognized Dan's voice as she was walking by. M said that she wanted to thank Dan for taking care of her and for performing range of motion on each of her wrists. She stated that in the 7 years since the time of her injury she has visited the Burn unit, she has continued to receive surgeries at UCSD but, she had never seen Dan since she was discharged from the hospital. M looked so amazingly good that you could not tell that at one point she had 40% TBSA affected to bilateral arms, chest, neck, face and thighs and an inhalation injury.
M was so thankful for the care that Dan gave her, for the patience he showed and for speaking to her in her language, Spanish. M stated that without Dan performing range of motion on each of her wrists, she would not have been able to regain the independence of driving again. She thanked him for his persistence and encouragement when she needed it most. I felt it necessary to send this email to you today to recognize this amazing moment!
