Dawn Burkitt began her career at Mt Carmel many years ago and has worked at many levels of care within the hospital as she advanced in her nursing career. She has always modeled leadership in her willingness to do whatever is needed to ensure that patients get the best, most timely care and service. When she is faced with high acuity and/or low staffing, she always faces these challenges with a positive attitude, pitching in to do whatever is needed whether it be rounding on patients, calling to set up a discharge cab for a patient after hours, or just taking the time to listen to what the patients have to say. In her current position, she rounds on the units and offers support, guidance, even willingness to help transfer patients to other units or even to secure the equipment needed for our patients, which includes going to a medical floor and wheeling a bed to the unit herself, even assisting staff with transferring the patient to the hospital bed. Dawn has always been the kind of person you look to in any crisis, for her calmness under pressure and for always maintaining a positive attitude.
