I have observed Elaina as she has cared for many types of patients. She is always kind, gentle and compassionate. Two events, in particular, stand out for me. She was the primary nurse for a patient who was actively dying. I assisted as she provided peri-care, a linen change and turning for this patient. I remember how gentle and compassionate she was, but what I remember the most are the tears that I saw in her eyes as she was caring for a person who was nearing the end of their life and how much it meant to me that she cared so much for someone who had been a stranger but was now her patient.
Elaina also took care of my father when he was here on two occasions. I do not think that it was easy to care for him with all of my family here on a regular basis in addition to knowing that I was watching over his care. He was sometimes irascible, reluctant to follow the program and had great difficulty hearing, yet, Elaina was always pleasant to him and to all of my family. She demonstrated the same compassion for a relative stranger that I have seen her demonstrate time and time again.
