Jamie was going to grab a cup of coffee at the coffee shop by Building D when she noticed that a group of Security Officers, all men in their suits, running towards the Building D parking lot. She knows having worked in the House Supervisor Office that there must be something up if these men were on the run, so she ran with them. She was asking on the way, "where are we going?" and they said there's someone trying to jump from the rooftop. They arrived at the top of Building D, they found the young man, who is in tears and was staring at the ground underneath, looking as if he's wanting to jump. The officers were trying to approach him and were instructing the young man to step down, but he was screaming back at them "Go Away". Jamie stepped in and started talking to him, and she was able to connect with him. Jamie immediately recognized this, that he was more responsive to her and she took her time talking to the young man, standing there with him for more than 10 minutes. She slowly stepped a bit closer, just continuing to talk to the young man and she found out that he had been abused by most of his male caregivers in the facility he was in, and he found out he was going to be sent back there. He got scared and his immediate reaction was to flee. Jamie finally reached him at arms-length, still continuously talking to him and finally she told him; "do you mind if we step down, I'm really scared of heights" and he said ok, and that's when Jamie was able to help him to walk down the building and she called the other House Supervisors to arrange for a female nurse to attend to him.
The Police Officers came and took custody, as they were arranging to move the young man to another facility, the young man asked for Jamie to come back. Jamie went to see him in the ED and when he saw her, he started crying and said; "Thank you, for saving my life today." This is a powerful story of just how remarkable Jamie is, she always puts the patient's safety and welfare of others, at the forefront of everything she does.
