Student Nurse
Jessica Walker was receptive and friendly to both staff and students. She was able to share a presentation about fire safety with the students and even dressed in her firefighting gear to let the children understand that firefighters are not scary.
After the presentation, Jessica joined the children outside. While outside one of the students was crawling and hit their head on the playground equipment causing a cut to open. Jessica, along with staff, immediately rendered first aid to the child. Jessica was able to use her knowledge of nursing and work as a county EMT to stabilize the child until an ambulance arrived. She remained with the child until the child could be evaluated at the hospital. The staff at Head Start along with the child's family are incredibly thankful for Jessica. Injuries pertaining to our students can create a mentally and emotionally traumatic time for all involved. Jessica was truly a hero to us that day. We owe the biggest thank you to her for being with us on that day.
