I cried tears of joy when our baby boy was born. Not just to meet him, but for the amazing support Joanne gave my husband and me throughout this journey.
We have been blessed to have Joanne as our nurse for our last two deliveries. This time was especially meaningful as we were familiar with her from a year and a half ago, and she was able to be there during delivery this time. She was a great asset to the support I needed to get through labor. She instructed my husband in additional pain management strategies. She was respectful of my indecisiveness regarding getting an epidural. She frequently asked how I was feeling and told me to call on her if I decided to have one done; even if it was just a minute later.
I did ultimately decide to get an epidural and let’s just say it was not an easy or pleasant process. The spaces between my disc are apparently small and I did not want to cooperate. Joanne physically held me in a comforting way to help me stay in the proper position. She constantly asked how I was doing, suggested alternate positions to help complete the process, and kept telling me “you’re doing good.” Between holding my husband’s hand and her holding me the procedure was completed. I know I wouldn’t have gotten through that without her. Once the epidural was placed I was able to relax.
As labor progressed Joanne kept us informed of everything she was doing and why, she was always honest about any changes noted and what they could mean. During her time checking in on us, she was also great to just talk to for a minute which made the process much less stressful. When it came time to push, again Joanne was full of encouraging words and support. This time around we were fortunate enough for Joanne to be there through the delivery. I cried tears of joy when our baby boy was born. Not just to meet him, but for the amazing support Joanne gave my husband and me throughout this journey. The entire team at Sacred Heart has been amazing throughout the three deliveries I’ve had here. Joanne however stands out from the crowd. Her passion for what she does shines. She truly cares for her patients. She’s an absolute blessing to have had on this journey. Thank you, Joanne!
Note: This is Joanne's 2nd DAISY Award!
