I was a patient under Julie’s care. I came to the emergency department after having been to another emergency department where I sat in the waiting room with my condition not being addressed. Shortly after arriving at York Hospital ED, I was transferred to a room and then to the rapid area of the ED where I met a nurse by the name of Julie.

Julie was an amazing patient advocate. At this point, it was the early morning hours, and I was in so much pain. The first-year surgical resident explained that I could go home and wait for the pain to get worse and come back if it did.

After he left, we called the nurse back in because my family and I felt I should not be discharged. Julie reached back out to the emergency room doctor, who paged the surgical team, letting her know what had happened. The emergency room doctor then came back to reassure me that I would not be discharged under my condition. The attending was notified of the incident and came down to speak with me, where more tests were run.

If it was not for Julie’s kind words and prompt action, I could have been sent home and had a worse outcome. Thank you so much for caring for me, Julie. You are a great patient advocate.
