I was rounding on Mr. R today and received a compliment regarding Lauren. Mr. R and his family said that "Lauren was the best nurse that he had EVER had." Mr. R is terminally ill and apparently wanted to take a shower very badly. However, he could not stand for a shower. Lauren thought to use a sling to hold the patient while he showered. His wife was so impressed that she took a photo of the equipment. She even talked to me about how she got wet while assisting him with his shower. Mr. R was very happy that he finally got a chance to shower "from head to toe." It's the seemingly small things that make the difference in a patient's experience. I know that we use the wipes and accomplish the purpose of bathing our patients, but Lauren listened to Mr. R and understood that an actual shower was more important to him. Not only did she listen, she delivered! Way to make a difference for this patient and for his family! Amazingly, Lauren was 8 months pregnant at the time of this event!
