Lisa is one of the kindest souls I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She embodies the spirit of caring in a high acuity and very intense setting. The patients we deal with can be very sick and vulnerable. Lisa can always find a way to bring a smile to everyone's face. There is a patient on our unit who has been with us for a long time. He is a quadriplegic and ventilator dependent. No nurse enjoys taking care of him as much as Lisa. Lisa takes the extra time to try and make this patient feel more human. She is willing to have conversations with a person who can barely mouth words to her despite the 500 other things she has to do. She makes sure he is as comfortable as possible. The extra time Lisa takes when caring for this man should be an example to all of us critical care. We see a lot of hopelessness and loneliness in our patient populations. It can be to the point where we become jaded in order to preserve the function of our jobs. This nurse brings herself to work every day with a great attitude and a ton of compassion. Lisa manages to stay both professional and very caring. Lisa's patient's get great care. We could all learn from Lisa's example.
