She provides a stimulating atmosphere and challenges her students in her classroom lectures. She truly cares for her students, which is evident when you see her interaction with them.
Where do I even begin to describe why Professor Rita Wallace is so special? Do I start in regards to her as a peer/colleague/professor or as a general person as a whole? Regardless of what I start with, Professor Wallace excels and is top-notch in all aspects and is most deserving of the DAISY Award, reflecting on all it symbolizes.
Professor Wallace has demonstrated how a professor goes above and beyond for her students and faculty on a daily basis. Her care and compassion for nursing and teaching are apparent just by walking into her office. She makes it warm, inviting, and comforting by providing a therapeutic environment for students (and faculty) who need an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or just general advice on nursing, work, skills, or life stressors. Professor Wallace not only runs the simulation lab but also actively participates in “mock” case studies as a patient to help enhance students’ understanding and learning. She goes above and beyond what is required of her for student tutoring hours to ensure students succeed in the program and classes they are currently enrolled in. She provides a stimulating atmosphere and challenges her students in her classroom lectures. She truly cares for her students, which is evident when you see her interaction with them. Professor Wallace goes above and beyond not only for her students but for faculty and staff as well. She has made sure new faculty feel welcome and continuously reaches out to them, making them part of the “LCN Family.” She has shown up early to help new faculty prepare for exams and lectures and/or just to make sure they are doing well and give encouragement needed when feeling as if they are not succeeding in providing what students need. She is always positive and encouraging, providing and promoting a positive work environment. When I think of someone who is deserving of the DAISY Award, Professor Wallace definitely is the prime candidate and recipient who encompasses all of what this award symbolizes.
