During my mom’s last few weeks, she asked her to just sit with her at times, and she did just that. No one else was on her mind; no one else was a priority- just my mom.
Even though her job is “hospice,” you can tell it is much more than a job to Sherry but it is her calling, her strength. She is a true gem. My 79-year-old mother was at the facility during her hospice, and she was her nurse. She visited at least 1 time a week, if not more, and up to 3 times a week sometimes. She would always call me and give me updates and let me know how my mom was doing and what was being done for her. During my mom’s last few weeks, she asked her to just sit with her at times, and she did just that. No one else was on her mind; no one else was a priority- just my mom. I know my mom really appreciated this time with her when I couldn’t be there. She didn’t have any issue talking about death and dying with my mom and tried to make it an easy transition for her and not to be scared, that it is quite natural, and that there will be no pain on the other side. She was there for me and prepared me for my mother’s death, too. She gave me the signs of how long it would be, that I would still have my mother, and she was right in the time frame that she had given. Anyone can tell that she knows her job, her profession, and her skills but that it is more than just a job. It is a calling and something that she doesn’t have to work hard at, because it comes quite naturally for her. I appreciate her and everything she did for my mom and myself. I can only hope that everyone in hospice is lucky enough to have her in their corner as their main supporter and cheerleader. She is one of a kind.
