I have had the pleasure of working with Tasha Wilson in a hospital setting and in a home care setting and have been amazed by both. Tasha is always going above and beyond for both patient and co-workers.
I was in a patient's home and was unsuccessful with a lab stick so like always Tasha to the rescue. It's not abnormal for me to call her before I even email scheduling because she is always trying to be a team player even when her productivity is 9. Tasha arrived and the patient was already anxious about being re-stuck, but Tasha explained the importance and that she would be as gentle as possible. During this visit, her son came from the bedroom and was very verbally confrontational to both the patient and us. Tasha quickly diffused the situation by acknowledging his frustrations and we worked to calm them both down in different areas of their home. Tasha and I spent an additional hour with this family trying to work out family issues and give psychosocial support. Tasha could have left after she drew the blood, but she saw a patient's need and a co-worker's need and stayed.
Before we exited the home the son understood more about his mother's condition and the anxiety that comes with it, and the patient understood that her son needed more help from other siblings. The patient agreed to speak with SW and call her daughter to give her son respite breaks.
We see these issues every day in home care, but Tasha always slows down and shows compassion and empathy for all, even if it isn't her patient. I called Tasha after we both left and thanked her and she said," It's what we do, and a thank you was not necessary". They always say home is where your heart is, and Tasha puts the home in home care.
