My husband entered the neuro ICU floor after we learned that he had a brain tumor in the ER in January. Abby was our day nurse, and she stood out from the start. Her patient care and concern were top-notch. This was such a difficult week for us at MCP - we went from confusion with driving to what the doctors thought was glioblastoma in a matter of days. Abby set up more conversations with Neuro NP, who was amazing as well. She got us in touch with a child life specialist to talk through all of the conversations that we were approaching with our children and was so kind & compassionate to our family through the whole process. What probably touched us the most was that Abby picked up shifts to continue our care which meant the world to us. It's hard switching to someone who doesn't really know you, and this just made us feel so much comfort at a time when we needed it the very most. Another example of excellence in Abby is that she even came by to see us when she had class at the hospital...all of these actions were just so very sweet, and we were truly so appreciative of her and the care that she gave my husband. It's even more special to me, particularly because 3 weeks from that day my 53-year-old husband passed away from a bi-lateral PE. Giving him great care & taking care of my little family in such a considerate way was just everything to me in the short time that we had as a family.
