When Abigail went in to pass meds on her patient, she noticed something wasn’t quite right. She immediately sprang into action to see if he was just tired or if something more acute was going on. She immediately asked for an EKG and bladder scan as well as a blood sugar check. While all this was being done, she called the charge nurse to confirm that an RRT was the right thing to do to ensure the safety of her patient. This led to the RRT becoming a stroke alert. Throughout the process, she showed pure expertise and strength in the nursing process and safeguarded her patient from a potentially much worse outcome. She then received a call from the family. She handled this with another level of compassion and care as the family had no idea about any of the events that had just occurred. She ensured that they talked to the right people and then ensured all their questions were answered and that they knew the plan of his care. She did everything with such professionalism you would never guess she was a more junior nurse!
