My favorite thing about direct patient care here at the VA is…wait for it…The Veterans! I love being able to have a direct positive impact on the care our Veteran's receive. After all the years of sacrifice, they have given to keep us free, the least I can do is try and go the extra mile to ensure their stay with us is as stress-free as possible because the hospital experience is stressful enough as it is. Every veteran who I serve has a story, and if I listen well enough, I can learn a life lesson which I can use to improve myself in a multitude of ways; as a husband, father, friend, or health care provider. -Alexander Langley, MSN, RN, CCRN, CSC

Alex introduced himself as our nurse for the day and also the charge nurse for the unit. He was informative, caring, and knowledgeable. My husband had two surgeries on the same day. Alex was aware that there would be no physical therapy on that day and offered to assist my husband in walking. He knew that my husband had to have an x-ray while standing. Alex called the department, made the appointment, took my husband down to x-ray and assisted him to stand in order to get the study done. Once he found out that we would be moving to another room that same day, Alex made arrangements to move and then pushed my husband up to the new unit. Alex was extremely helpful, competent and proactive in the care of my husband. He personally attended to all of our needs and is a role model of a compassionate, caring nurse that makes sure things get done for the patient.
