Alexa Symoungkhoune, RN, from Mercy Campus 3 West, is the DAISY Award winner for February 2012. A patient on the unit nominated Alexa for the award for her outstanding care and concern she showed for this patient and his family.
The patient shared that “Alexa took the time to make sure that I had everything I needed. I came in with chest pain, which required a stress test. The stress test came back negative and I was to be discharged. I was continuing to have chest pain and Alexa worked with my family and physicians to have a second opinion organized. This was accomplished and I remained in the hospital to have a cardiac catheterization procedure. My family and I were relieved that Alexa was our nurse that day, as she took the time to advocate for me and to explain things in an understandable manner. She even stayed past her shift to take care of these issues. She made us feel truly cared for. I did end up having stents placed for a 99% blockage. I truly feel that Alexa saved my life.”
