Alison clearly acted as part of a team to help improve the care of my husband.
Alison demonstrated all of your CARE principles. My husband had back surgery Monday and by Wednesday midday his pain level was still not managed, that was until Alison worked with him, me, and the surgeon. Alison connected to us by listening and expressing herself in a way that showed she heard him. She did a great job of explaining the reasons for each medicine and acknowledging his pain, which was still not managed. Thankfully she understood more needed to be done.
I was especially impressed when the surgeon arrived. Her interactions with him were impressive. She conversed with Dr. K in a way that conveyed my husband’s pain and was inquisitive as to options to improve his pain level as well as overall care. I felt Alison clearly acted as part of a team to help improve the care of my husband. Overall, Alison has an exceptional ability to not only provide nursing services to a patient by hooking up an IV or delivering meds but she also provides needed care, comfort, and hope.
She really connected to us! It was very obvious she was not just “doing” a job to collect a paycheck. Rather she enjoyed her career and is great at delivering care to a person with a high level of skill, initiative, and compassion. There should be many more nurses just like her! We were lucky to have her as my husband’s nurse, even if it was only for one shift. She is a great representative of her profession and your hospital.
