Recently, my family's world was completely shaken and changed forever. We never thought we would all be gathered around my grandmother's bed, knowing that these would be the last hours with her. In this time, we were emotional, unable to eat, unable to think, just trying to process what was happening and grieve as a family. Everyone who cared for us did an amazing job, but Allison was exceptional. I don't know if I can accurately describe how Allison made such a meaningful difference, but I'll try. Allison showed so much compassion and understanding towards every member of my family (and there were a lot of us). Despite there being many visitors, Allison allowed us all to be at her bedside, worked around us, and never seemed overwhelmed or nervous. Allison explained everything to us and what to expect and made sure that the wishes of my grandmother and our family were met. We felt just as cared for as our mother/grandmother. Allison was very present, but also gave us time to be alone as a family; she continually voiced her concern for us by bringing us water, food, extra chairs, and getting the bereavement cart. She made one of the worst possible days of our lives a little more bearable.
Allison shows passion and compassion in her care, empathy to the situation, trust and teamwork with the family, the patient, and her peers, she has many admirable attributes, love for the patient and the profession of nurse, and above all is very selfless. We believe she is a true DAISY Nurse.
