Our unit was preparing for a neuro 4-hour surgery without covers a re-exploration of a previous lumbar surgery. Our team was opening trays and pertinent equipment for the case when Mandy noted that the preference card that was printed was for a microdiscectomy which was a totally different setup. Mandy made sure and ensured that the correct preference card, equipment, and instruments were picked for this 4-hour case. She helped ensure that our room was ready for our patient and the surgeon to perform the case – she assisted the circulating RN in the room until the case was completed. This takes a keen eye and expertise to keep this case running as it should. Mandy, with these exceptional and compassionate qualities, is a true DAISY Nurse.
