A mother and her two teenage children were in the ER . The mother was being treated. There was the attending NP and Amanda Salois was the attending nurse. Amanda and the NP had been made aware of the mother's circumstances. The mother had driven from out of state with plans to stay with friends. The home where she would be living would be available at the end of the month. When she arrived, the friends had decided not to let her stay. The mother and children were homeless. Amanda was informed by our care coordinator that the shelters would not receive anyone after 5:00 PM. Everyone involved was trying to come up with a solution but with no success.
Amanda would not give up. While attending her other patient she made several phone calls.
She was told over and over again that there were no shelters available. She had left a message with a nearby Ministry. They returned her call and could provide a place for the family. Due to Amanda's compassion and diligence the family would have a place to sleep for the night.
I applaud Amanda. She went above and beyond for this family in need.
