Amber holds a certification in geriatric care. She is the Clinical Manager for the Acute Care of Elders (ACE) Unit and NICHE Program. Amber has done a tremendous job growing the ACE Unit. We have been able to expand the ACE Unit from an 8-bed unit to 12 beds under her leadership. She was our very first ACE Unit nurse we hired into the area. She has grown in leadership and has carried the ACE Unit to where it is today.
Amber is a servant leader. She is always visible to her team, patients, and family members. She ensures that everyone has what they need to be successful in their role. The ACE Unit is continuously recognized for their outstanding care they provide. Patients and physicians prefer this area because of the care they receive. Amber is also constantly recognized by her team and students. They describe her as being a mentor and a true leader who models the way. The team trusts Amber and they go to her with ideas to impact the care of their patients. Amber has also formed the Continual Advances in Nursing for Elders (CANE) Committee. This committee has representatives throughout the various areas of the organization. This committee discusses and researches best practices for our geriatric population. Their goal is to impact the care of the elderly population throughout the organization, not just the ACE Unit.
Not only does Amber impact the care within our hospital walls, she also serves on various community boards/committees. She is co-chair of the Dementia Friendly Midland and a member of West Texas Conference on Aging Board. She has recently been asked to also be a part of the Senior Corps Advisory Council.
Amber continues to grow professionally. She was accepted into the AONE Nurse Manager Fellowship. This will help her grow even more in her leadership role. Her project that she has selected to complete within the program impacts the geriatric population that sustains hip fractures.
Amber is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse Leader. We are very lucky to have her!
