Our son was struggling to breathe and was also not able to walk very well. We could see the fear in his eyes along with the pain. Nurse Amber would bend down, speak softly with our son and encourage him to do his best. During his transfusion, she never missed a beat and continued to provide him the utmost courtesy and respect. Even when we as parents were pushing him possibly too far, she had such a tactful way to remind us to take baby steps and celebrate the ones that he was making. She spoke to us with tactful kindness. She walked many steps during the work shifts where he was part of her caseload. She never ever short changed him and his machine would beep often due to oxygen matters. Thanks to Nurse Amber, she caused his xray moment to change from a dreaded experience filled with pain to a calm one. Amber knew to have him to go with oxygen. We never thought about it and it made such a world of difference. He would return to his room at a peaceful state and not have to quickly get on strong pain meds. That was major to us. Nurse Amber is our son's Super Star!
