I was involved in the psychosocial care of a patient experiencing fetal demise in L&D. I observed such an excellent nursing intervention from the nurse caring for the patient that I feel I need to share it with you as her manager. It was evident that Ana Schaffner has an excellent insight of the impact on patients and their families of perinatal death and treats each loss as unique; focusing on the needs of patient and family. She showed empathy, was sensitive to their needs, helping patient and family to create the space and time to connect with their own reality and grieve appropriately, she provided active listening with concern regarding to what was said and not being said. Her willingness to support this family was evident in the care provided and her time and attention was completely focused on the patient's well-being.
