We had a very pleasant older woman admit for a preoperative carotid endarterectomy. Andrea Kluesner was helping other staff prep this woman for surgery and quickly realized she was unable to care for herself, as she had some concerning hygiene/self-care issues. This woman has no shower at home, her washing machine was broke, and her caretaker passed away 2 years ago. The ambulatory staff proceeded to give the woman a shower in the department, combed through her hair (which was long and matted). One employee even cut her hair into a very fitting hair cut!
The Patient's toenails were long, curled, and unkempt. Andrea chose to use her morning break to run to a store to purchase the woman new boots and socks (which her and two other employees split the cost among each other-because "it was the right thing to do").
