Angela Edwards is a dynamic nurse leader with progressive leadership experience. Dr. Edwards has been part of the Woodhull team for 13 years and 6 months and currently leads the Nursing/Patient Care Services and coordinates the daily clinical operations for the Nursing department, Inpatient Clerical Services, Care Managers, Medicine, Surgical, Maternal Child Health, and Perioperative Services lines.
She started her nursing career in 1983 at Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad and received her diploma of nursing in 1986 before migrating to the United States in 1989. She received a bachelor's degree at St. Joseph College, a Master's Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Leadership at Chamberlain University. Dr. Edwards has also completed the Advisory Board Fellowship program, which is an 18-month intensive leadership curriculum for rising executives.
Dr. Edwards began her tenure at Woodhull in June 2010 as Senior Associate Director of Nursing-Patient Care Services and was promoted to Deputy Director of Nursing-Patient Care Services the following year. In September 2013 she was again promoted to her current leadership position as Deputy Executive Director of Nursing/ Chief Nursing Officer.
Dr. Edwards stated, “Nursing is one of the most professionally and personally rewarding careers there is. I became a nurse so that I could have an impact on the lives of others. I believe that at the end of the day, no matter how challenging, I have impacted someone’s life for the better. What I find to be the most rewarding about being a nurse is the numerous career paths that are available within the profession."
