Angie is truly an angel in the eyes of our family. This summer I gave birth to my third child- a sweet 7lb 9oz baby boy. The OBGYN showed us that he had a true knot in the umbilical cord but that there were not any issues. His Apgar scores were 8 and 9 and everything was great- or so we thought. Once we transferred to our new room Angie came in to do her initial assessment. She brought him over to my bedside and was grabbing him out of the bassinet to hand him to me and she stopped. She asked if we would mind if she took him to the nursery for a little more evaluation because she noticed a slightly bluish color across his nasal bridge and she just wanted to double check everything since she read he had a true knot. After she took him to the nursery, she quickly discovered his oxygen saturations were only in the 70s. She quickly called our pediatrician and then the neonatologist in the NICU. Hours later the neonatologist and pediatric cardiologist came to my room to inform my husband and me that my son has multiple complex heart defects and needed to be on a medication to keep his PDA open until he could have surgery, or he would not survive. We are SO SO grateful for Angie being so vigilant and paying attention to every detail about our son and taking him for further evaluation. If he had not been taken to the nursery, and then NICU we may have lost our sweet boy. There is no way we will ever be able to express our gratitude to Angie for saving our son. She is truly his guardian angel. Angie deserves to be recognized for her attention to detail and the extraordinary care she provides.
