Annette was giving me report on a dying patient. The patient's wife asked for assistance. While I received report on my other patients, Annette helped the patient and the family. She gave positive, caring support to the family. Her actions gave so much comfort to the wife and family that when the patient died, the family was at ease with the passing. She didn't want to just leave the patient's wife and family once the patient was pronounced. After all, she's already given report. But she went above and beyond what she had to do, not just to me but also to the family. She offered to contact the chaplain, to start the necessary paperwork when a death occurred, to make the necessary calls. She was there to help. She wasn't hurried to go home. The one thing that she didn't have to do but she did anyway turned out to be the best help ever for the patient's wife and family. She stayed in the room with them throughout the whole transition from the dying phase to the last moments when the patient was pronounced. Her deeply caring heart glowed in the faces of all the members of the family, with them knowing that their loved one passed away peacefully. Thank you for your kind, kind heart. I am blessed to have you as a coworker!
