Here is one story that proves how Brandi is an extraordinary nurse and deserving of the Daisy Award. When the supervisor notified her of the admission, Brandi recognized the patients name from a previous admission and placed him in her assignment. She stated she loved both the patient and his wife. Unfortunately, the patient was suffering from serve altered mental status. Brandi and his wife were extremely concerned about him. Brandi collaborated with the team to get him medications, tests ordered, and ensure safety measures were in place. She was in constant contact with the wife updating her when she was not at the bedside. Throughout the patients stay he declined, and suffered a terrible fall. Brandi was distraught over this wondering what she could have done to prevent it. Brandi continued to care for this patient over the course of his stay. We witnessed her relationship with the patient and his wife grow. She truly cared for them as family. As the patient progressed, and returned to baseline, Brandi encouraged him to go to therapy and continue getting better. He discharged to a different facility on her day off, as soon as she returned to work she was asking how he was and where he went. Brandi goes above and beyond for each of her patients collaborating with the team daily to ensure all medical needs are met, and personal needs too - bathed with new sheets. As I mentioned, this is one of the many reasons Brandi is an extraordinary nurse.
