Ms. Brenda Godwin was assigned to taking care of our mother after her surgery. She had to have outpatient surgery for a 90% blocked carotid artery. Ms. Godwin went over and above in the recovery room when she noticed that her patient was showing signs of another stroke after she appeared to have gone through surgery just fine. She immediately notified the patient's vascular surgeon. Ms. Godwin's attention to detail and knowledge about the signs and symptoms of a mini-stroke in the recovery room likely saved our mother's life. A less knowledgeable or experienced nurse may have attributed the patient's symptoms solely to the effects of anesthesia, but Ms. Godwin's questioning attitude and sense of urgency made all the difference in the world.
