This month I've dealt with recurring health issues that seemed to only get worse. After my 3rd trip to the ER, I was admitted to stay in the hospital for further care. I struggle with extreme anxiety and PTSD, so being completely alone in a hospital while having numerous tests and procedures done was entirely overwhelming, to say the least.
However, I was genuinely fortunate to have the phenomenal nursing staff on the 5th floor at St. Alexius to look out for me. One nurse specifically stood out to me because of her exceptional care. Her name is Brianna.
Throughout the procedures, I experienced intense anxiety, but Brianna was there and lent me her hand to hold. This may seem insignificant but when you are all alone, scared, and in such a vulnerable position, a hand to hold meant the absolute world to me. Not only did she lend me a hand to hold, but she was also incredibly consistent with the care she provided me. She always communicated with me and explained things and plans before they happened, which helped to put me at ease. Even in moments when I found myself breaking down or just feeling out of it, she never made me feel any lesser for experiencing these things. She just continued to provide thorough and consistent care.
In Spring I go back to college to get CNA certified and begin my journey of exploring the medical field. The care and comfort Brianna provided me with are what I aspire to give the people I'll be taking care of in the future. I've met a lot of nurses and teams, but none can compare to the genuine kindness and attentive care I received from Brianna and the nursing staff on the 5th floor at St. Alexius. For a very scary, uncomfortable situation to be in with my health, I've never felt safer and more comfortable due to being in such good hands. Words simply do not do justice when trying to describe my deep gratitude and appreciation.
