She connects with her patients. I have observed her answering their questions in a calm, focused, and caring way.
It is with pride and honor that I am nominating Brigid Sumo for the DAISY Award. Among the many reasons why she deserves this award these are a few of them. Brigid Sumo is an excellent nurse, period.
Her peers and patients speak highly of her. During my leadership round on the patients, her name would come up as of the nurse the patients would like to recognize several times.
She is especially valued by our chemotherapy patients. They know her at a personal level, considering she interacted with them consistently during their chemotherapy sessions.
She goes above and beyond what is expected of her. For example, she would pay with her own money for her certification to ensure that she is qualified to provide the care that the chemo patients need.
She is very flexible. Although she works the night shift, she always volunteers her time to work days or nights whenever needed.

She would go out of her way to find help for her patients by calling the doctors when the family members needed more clarification on a prognosis. She always stays calm even when the situation is difficult.
