She was compassionate and always went out of her way to make sure my uncle and my family were taken care of.
My uncle was in the ICU due to liver failure. After several weeks we were told there wasn’t anything more that could be done for him. Our experience while he was in the ICU was very rocky, not only due to the nature of his sickness but also due to the communication handling of the hospital staff (both doctors and nurses).
However, we had one nurse who was hands down the greatest to work with. Brittany (Katie) Osuji was very attentive to my uncle’s needs even after we moved to comfort care. She was compassionate and always went out of her way to make sure my uncle and my family were taken care of. I extremely appreciated her taking the initiative to join in on discussions with doctors, organ donation, palliative care, etc. so that she had all the most up-to-date and accurate information. It was also helpful because it meant it wasn’t on us as a family to relay information from doctor to doctor as we had to do when Katie wasn’t our nurse.
Katie also went out of her way to come and check on us when she wasn’t assigned as my uncle’s nurse.
My uncle passed away in the ICU. It was a very dark time for my family, but Katie provided the only light available at a time like that. It meant a lot to us, and we will never forget it.
