As the Bayou Regions Coordinator of Ambulatory Clinics I have a wonderful staff of LPN's and Medical Assistants and below is an example of one very outstanding nurse and we are very fortunate to have her on our team. Below are 3 DAISY award nominations for Brittney Oldham LPN here at Ochsner St Anne Matthews clinic. These 3 nominations were submitted by three of her LPN peers.
Brittney has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help one of our patients to obtain the care that he so desperately needs. She has spent a countless amount of work and personal time on this mission. I personally think that she needs to be commended for this.
I know that we are nurses and that we are advocates for our patients but this woman went out of her way to make sure this patient got what he needed. This particular patient is paralyzed from the waist down due to an accident that he was in years ago. He is a patient that started with us as a nursing home patient and was bounced between doctors. He finally started to see one provider and he left a message one day that Brittney took. The patient's complaint was of pain in his legs. The doctor said that there was no way he could be having pain there because he is paralyzed. But the patient insisted that he was in pain, so after MANY messages back and forth for over 3 months, medical records being faxed from other facilities, a confrontation with this doctor, Brittney finally got the doctor to order another MRI. The patient finally got the MRI done and the doctor consulted a specialist with it and this patient is FINALLY going where he needs to go to receive treatment. My point is that Brittney worked very hard and cried with and for this patient. She was a true advocate for him.
In the last month or so, she has been a tremendous advocate for one of our patients. She has gone above and beyond what anyone else was willing to do for this patient. He is a paraplegic who was having difficulty getting treatment. She tried for weeks to find a provider to treat him, but failed due to his insurance. The fight that she put up for him to get treatment was amazing. She did not stop until he was taken care of and continues to this day to fight for him. She was a huge inspiration to me as well as the other nurses at this clinic. She is an extraordinary nurse and I feel that she deserves recognition for her dedication.
