I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and recognize the performance of Brook Haddy who attended to me during my prolonged hospitalization in the Danbury ICU. Throughout my stay, I spent many hours with Brook. She performed her duties with the utmost poise, dignity, and grace. Not surprisingly, a major concern for me was that my wound sites might become infected. Brook kept me clean, changed my dressings and I believe her diligence kept me free from infection.
Within the first five minutes of meeting Brook, I was most impressed with her intuition to apply her education, knowledge, and experience to make her own decisions in an effort to make me as comfortable as possible under extreme circumstances. She has an air of confidence and her actions instilled trust and comfort in both myself and my wife. I was immediately struck by her finesse to do such a thorough job and not be constrained by merely "checking off boxes" or being biased by rigid protocols.
On several occasions, Brook was my advocate during rounds and was the first to seek information and guidance on my behalf. These actions were initiated solely by Brook. She intuitively understands what her patients need. Her thoughts are open, honest and sincere and she speaks without pretense—a true rarity. This helped me feel a sense of normalcy despite my complex medical care. I will always be grateful for this. I was not merely cared for as a patient, but rather I had someone care about me as a person. I did not expect this type of care, but I am truly grateful for such care.
