Brooke is an absolutely amazing nurse. My worst nightmare as a mother came true when my 2 year old son fell, requiring a trip to the emergency department. He was in pain, unsure of what was happening and was very scared. With all of the staff coming in and out of our room, we had a difficult time calming our son down and an even tougher time making him comfortable. I was so close to tears when Brooke came into our room. She came in with a smile, carrying stickers, bubbles, and playdoh. She sat on the stool next to the bed and immediately began interacting with my son. She looked him in the eyes and asked, "Do you like stickers?" and showed him the Paw Patrol stickers that she had brought in for him. My son calmed down and said "Yeah" which was the first thing he had said in the past few hours. She started blowing bubbles and he tried to pop them, with no more tears in his eyes.
She put him at ease and comforted him in a very scary situation. The ER can be such a busy department with so many things going on at once. Brooke put time aside, was calm and incredibly caring, and intentional in calming our son. She also put me and my husband at ease. Sanford is so lucky to have an RN like Brooke and my husband and I want her to be recognized for her compassion. It is difficult to properly describe how much we appreciated her. Thank you, Brooke!!!
