Not only did Brooke keep her patient safe, but she also kept her patient’s family safe.
She is a nurse who started her nursing career during the height of the pandemic. Her nursing orientation was unique, to say the least, but she took each day in stride and sought out learning experiences regularly. Since coming off orientation, she has shown tremendous growth in her first year as a nurse. Her patients, families, and peers often recognize her for being compassionate, kind, and caring. She often is an advocate for her patients and families, but she really excelled as an advocate for safety one night. She had picked up overtime as there was a call-off. Being the helpful and kind nurse that she is, she was escorting a patient to the front lobby with their child to be picked up for discharge. When she, the patient, and the patient’s mother were exiting the main lobby to meet the patient’s father in the car, a fight/shooting was happening outside of the hospital. Thinking quickly, she brought both the patient and the mother back into the lobby. She was able to help mom secure a parking pass and rearranged for the patient’s father to meet them in the mid-campus garage to assure everyone was safe and out of harm’s way. Not only did she keep her patient safe, but she also kept her patient’s family safe. In times of high stress, she demonstrates that she can think clearly and critically to benefit her patients and their families. We are happy to have her as part of our team, and she demonstrates on a regular basis how to put her kids and families first!
