The depth of her knowledge, her compassion, her ability to communicate and dumb it down for us, her advocacy for the best path forward, and her ability to teach students in parallel - it's amazing!
This has been the longest 6 days of my life. We were told that my baby's situation was touch and go, and doctors were unsure if she would make it through the night. We heard hard truths during this time, including that she was the sickest patient in the hospital. This is devastating news to try and process. Throughout everything, Cally Dawn has been our rock. The depth of her knowledge, her compassion, her ability to communicate and dumb it down for us, her advocacy for the best path forward, and her ability to teach students in parallel - it's amazing! When Cally first became our nurse, she introduced herself to my baby and explained what she was doing directly to her, even though she was sedated and not responding. This level of care made my heart sing. My baby was being treated like a human who understands and responds, even though that was not the case. As other nurses came and went, I would overhear comments about nice work with the line setup, and the response was oh, that was Cally! There was a film that Cally put over her dressing, and she did it so that when my baby pooped everywhere, the dressing wouldn't have to be changed, just the protective film. This was admired by the other nurses who came after Cally. Y'all have a quote posted on the wall when coming in from the parking ramp: "When you see amazing, it changes you." This statement brings tears to my eyes because I have seen it and know it to be true.
