Last night was an extremely busy night in PICU. The unit received three critically sick intubated children all around the same time. Carissa was in charge and she was able to be efficient and effective in leading her unit during this time. She was able to shine as a leader; helping change patient assignments, helping stabilize a patient on the unit and settle new patients, all the while with a positive, proactive approach. She was already planning and critically thinking ahead before I told her about the next patient who needed to come to the PICU. She continued with her positive attitude, assigned the patients, and moved forward to trying to make sure her unit was safe, the patients were safe. She smiled through it. Her leadership and grace help her set an example for her unit to come together as a team. Fabulous job Carissa!
