The family spoke very highly of Carly, and they were extremely grateful for her kindness and understanding.
During the peak of COVID-19, we had a patient that Carly took care of multiple times throughout her hospitalization. The family was unable to visit due to our visitor restrictions, so they called the unit multiple times throughout the day for updates. The patient and the family were very worried and anxious. Carly happily spoke to all of the family members and made sure to help the patient use our tablet to Facetime many family members throughout the day. The family spoke very highly of Carly, and they were extremely grateful for her kindness and understanding. The daughter of the patient kept telling Carly that she wanted to hug her to show her appreciation for taking such good care of her mom and keeping all of the family updated. The patient was discharged but came to the ER weeks later and was not doing very well. The family called from the ER to the 3rd floor looking for Carly. They wanted Carly to come see the patient in the ER; they thought it would bring their mother comfort. They said that while the patient was at home, she spoke of Carly often about how she went out of her way to be kind. Carly went to the ER to see the patient. While there, Carly held the patient's hand and comforted both the patient and the family. The patient's daughter was finally able to give Carly the hug she promised. This is just one story from one patient's family, but this is how Carly treats all of her patients. She exudes kindness and compassion. She goes above and beyond to make sure her patients and their families are informed and well taken care of. Carly is extremely deserving of a DAISY Award.
