I recently witnessed an event that I believe is an example of the type of nurse that Carly is. Carly recently took care of a very ill trauma patient several times over the course of 5 weeks. On what would be his final day of life, she showed exceptional compassion to his family and friends. She offered clinical insight while balancing love and support for the family. Carly showed empathy because even though as a clinician she knows that care was futile, she allowed the family time to come to that conclusion as well. Carly was transparent and honest with the family and therefore they trusted her to care for their loved one in his final hours. I admire Carly for her ability to balance intelligence, mentoring (she was precepting someone as well) and compassion. Lastly, Carly was selfless with the time she gave the family, and me. She is truly an inspiration!
