Carolyn exemplifies compassionate nursing and thereby the core value of Respectful Compassion. She communicates passionately with families and has a way of explaining the plan of care to both the family and our patients. This helps our patients to accept situations that are difficult for them. I work with her every weekend and collaborate with her professionally and she always maintains patient comfort over all other things. Carolyn is a staunch patient advocate and goes to battle for them when needed. One example of her advocating for her patient is when a very large family was present grieving over the eventual death of the patriarch.
Three of the patient's grown children were present during a Care Conference. Carolyn guided the adult children to peace in their hearts regarding the patient's death. During that moment she helped the family to understand that the dying process is not only hard for the family members but difficult for the patient as well. I could tell that each family member was impacted by what she said and the heaviness in the room was lifted, as Carolyn helped them to be empathetic to their father's feelings. To me, this demonstrated the core value of Passion for Excellence.
Carolyn always uses holistic nursing while caring for her patients and will not hesitate to sit down and carefully and professionally provide emotional support to a family member or the patient. Carolyn consistently ensures that hospice patients are comfortable in her care. I have worked closely with her over the past year and a half and I have never found her patients uncomfortable or suffering during her shift. She is a true DAISY Nurse for the care and compassion she provides every day for our patients.
