Recently, we had a patient who was on hospice. The patient's husband had gone home for a little while. Catherine finished her shift, punched out and came back to sit with the patient and hold her hand until she passed away. She did not want her to pass alone.
Rumford Hospital had a long-term swingbed patient, who was craving a burger. Not only did this RN personally buy him a burger, but on hearing that he loved burgers cooked over charcoal, she went home, fired up her charcoal grill, and cooked him one herself and brought it in!
We had another patient write: "While I was an inpatient, I had a panic attack. Cathy stayed right with me and was able to talk me out of it. Her kind words and gentle demeanor helped me more than she knows."
As put by one of our patients: "Cathy always has her patients' best interests at heart. I can't think of anyone else who deserves this DAISY Award more than Cathy does."
