I came in at 40 weeks and with high blood pressure. I was told I needed to be induced. This was Monday afternoon and by Wednesday morning the pain was unbearable. I was still only 5 cm. I was distraught, in pain and afraid. The attending came in and spoke of a C-section and my husband and mother were pushing me to do it. I asked Catherine if she could check since I was in too much pain and felt too much pressure. She checked and calmly talked about 'practicing' because I was at 9 cm. Practice we did and my daughter was born just before 1 pm with a temperature because I had ruptured my water the day before. Throughout my ordeal, my overbearing family, my distraught husband (who is a Chinese national and whose English isn't great), all of it was overwhelming. Catherine's presence through it all was the calmest thing I needed then. She helped deliver my baby safely, healthy and helped to fulfill my wishes for my birth. She was the exact nurse I needed that day and I thank her for so much for it.
