Absolutely the best nurse I know, with a wealth of knowledge. I used to do my own informal poll asking nurses - if you were sick, who would you want to look after you? Hands down, Cathy Sutton's name came up every time. As a nurse, I think that is the biggest compliment you can get. She trained me 20 years ago & I still remember what she told me - treat every patient like you would want your mother to be looked after. To this day, 20 years later, I still do it. She definitely has made me a better nurse. I feel honored and privileged to work with her. Patients and families love her - it's the little things she does.
...
The most intelligent, compassionate, selfless, gracious nurse and person I have ever worked with. Consistently puts others above herself, no matter what the circumstances. An exceptional RN.
...
I am very honored to nominate Cathy Sutton for the DAISY Award. This nomination does not reflect the care of a specific patient but rather to award and honor the incredible care and compassion she has shown her patients during her 35 year career at Harborview.
I have worked directly with Cathy for the past 17 1/2 years and I can think of nobody more deserving of this award. During this time I have watched Cathy work day and night to advocate and care for our patients, mentor new nurses and support her colleagues. As I connect with patients and families I frequently hear of the outstanding knowledge, skill and finesse she shows in her care. Regardless of the request, Cathy is always available to help those in need.
Cathy continues to draw strength from providing care to others. She finds a way to put her own needs aside and care deeply for someone who just yesterday was a stranger. She is a true model of empathy and compassion.
Nursing is a very demanding calling in which providing the unselfish service that we do can often lead to "burnout". However, as I watch Cathy care for the patients at Harborview, I have only seen her grow more empathetic, compassionate and caring the longer she remains on the front lines of patient care.
Cathy is a true inspiration to her colleagues and to the profession of nursing. I am proud to nominate her for the DAISY Award, which I believe celebrates and honors all of the qualities of a nurse that Cathy embodies. She is a tremendous nurse and a valued colleague.
