My son was born five weeks early by emergency c-section. Catherine has been one of his nurses, and like all of the NICU has been kind and caring and very capable.
One day Catherine was A's day nurse. I talked with her about how sad I felt that A was 17 days old and has never seen sunlight - he was born at night, taken to the NICU, and had been in a windowless room ever since.
When I came back from running errands a couple of hours later, Catherine had transferred A to a room with a window - he could finally see daylight! All of our NICU nurses have been very technically competent, but Catherine went above and beyond by treating A (and us as his family) not just as a patient, but as a person.
Because of Catherine's kindness and initiative, A has gotten the chance to feel the sun shining on his face. His condition has been improving and we hope to take him home soon, but we will not forget what she did to improve his quality of life in the NICU.
