Nomination 1:
Cathy is the embodiment of Rapid Response Nursing. She does this job because she cares about each and every one of the nurses working at the bedside at Mission Hospital, and she cares that every patient has the best outcome. She is the "guardian angel" of staff support!
She has worked to develop a supportive relationship with the physicians and staff nurses so that no one is ever hesitant to call with a question or a need for a patient. She does this by being approachable, friendly, genuinely interested in what you have to say, and she never says no to a call for assistance. She even went to the loading dock to help get a piece of equipment unstuck in an ambulance! She helps with bedside procedures, attends rounds, answers call lights. There is no task too big or too small.
She is creative and expert in her practice. Once, last year, she sent someone to the hospital gift shop to get aspirin for a visitor having chest pain in the lobby of St Joseph. She and the code blue physician worked together to get the visitor transferred to the ED. After that event, she followed up with the code blue team to make sure that never again would the lobby of St Joe be without a code cart or aspirin! Cathy deserves this DAISY Award for all of her excellent demonstrations in what it means to develop professional relationships that are based on true caring and compassion for others.
Nomination 2:
I am always amazed at how Cathy goes above and beyond to help our staff and patients! She is always available in time of calm or trouble in code situations. She is an excellent resource for information and nursing experience. I am continually humbled by her dedication to merit behavior and excellent patient care! Even in hectic situations I am calmer and more confident when I see Cathy walk in the room. She is never too busy to answer a simple question or be involved in a procedure, I've even seen her answer phones when they are ringing off the hook and silence beeping IVs when walking by! I can only hope to be half the nurse she is one day.
I truly believe Cathy Grindstaff deserves the DAISY Award for so many reasons that it's impossible to list them all! I could not imagine Mission Hospital without Cathy Grindstaff!
